ABOUT US

Hamilton Township Fire Department (HTFD) has been providing fire and EMS services to its residents since 1944. Today HTFD provides 24/7 coverage for Hamilton Township, Obetz, Lockbourne, Reese, Rickenbacker, Shadeville and the surrounding communities. HTFD is dispatched by The City of Columbus. HTFD provides Emergency Medical Services, Fire suppression, Hazardous Material Response, and Community Paramedicine services. HTFD is a full time department employing full time and part time members. Hamilton Township operates two stations, 171 and 172, taking an average of 5,500+ runs a year.

FREQUENTLY REQUESTED INFORMATION

OPEN BURNS

Open burns are permitted in Hamilton Township, in accordance with the laws, rules and regulations of the State of Ohio, as outlined by the Ohio EPA and associated entities. ​​Properly completed open burn permits, if applicable, must be submitted to, and approved by, the Hamilton Township fire chief, and an authorized fire official (as designated by the fire chief) must perform an on-site inspection prior to any open burn. Even with an approved burn permit, if there are any complaints or concerns about your burn, the permit may be revoked and the fire must be extinguished. Permit requests can be obtained in person at any Hamilton Township fire station, or it can be printed directly from the Ohio EPA website. There is no charge for this service. EMS BILLING

Hamilton Township 'soft-bills' for all emergency medical services. This means that, while your insurance company is billed for Hamilton Township's services, township residents will never be billed for any services beyond what your insurance company pays. Uninsured residents will not be billed for EMS services. If you should receive a bill for EMS services, simply present it to the Hamilton Township Fire Chief for processing. ​Please feel free to contact Hamilton Township Fire Department if you have any questions, comments or concerns about Hamilton Township's EMS billing policy. ​Hamilton Township contracts with Change Healthcare to process all EMS billing. FIRE PREVENTION

Fire Inspections - Permit and Inspection Request Forms can be downloaded here, filled out and sent to shillingburgrhtfd171@gmail.com ​ Smoke Detectors - Smoke detectors save lives! When was the last time you checked your batteries? It is recommended to inspect your smoke detectors and replace your batteries during daylight-savings time. ​Smoke detectors are recommended to be placed outside every sleeping room as well as a minimum of one smoke detector on each floor. ​Hamilton Township Fire Department has free smoke detectors and installation available for any residents needing smoke detectors. Residents wishing to schedule an installation or obtain a smoke detector can call station 171 or submit a request here. The American Red Cross currently is running a "Home Fire Campaign". This campaign is designed to help save lives by installing free smoke detectors and educating people on home fire safety. More information can be found here.
